Rivalries can't be forced. They're earned by decades and decades of big games with do-or-die consequences. They're the games fans talk about all year long, and they're the ones that generations of fans never forget. In a sport so deeply rooted in history like college football, it's hard for new rivalries to break into the old boys' network. Ohio State and Michigan first played in 1897. Auburn and Alabama started hating each other in 1902. How are programs that haven't been good for more than a few years supposed to compete with that when it comes to creating a rivalry?
