Clemson's Koenning apologizes for 'joke' about Alabama's recruits
Crimson Tide News
Wednesday, 27 August 2008
Clemson's affable defensive coordinator has apologized for saying that two of Alabama's most highly regarded football recruits each drove off from high school events in a Cadillac Escalade.

"I guess I made a mistake in cutting a joke," Koenning said.

The ninth-ranked Tigers open the season Saturday against No. 24 Alabama in Atlanta. In a week where antiseptic comments of mutual respect are the norm, Koenning most likely gave the underdog Tide something to rally around.

Clemson's Vic Koenning comments not setting well with Bama fans
Crimson Tide News
Tuesday, 26 August 2008

Larry Williams' blog at the Charleston Post reveals some comments made by Clemson's defensive coordinator Vic Koenning regarding Alabama's Julio Jones and Burton Scott.

"I actually ran into Julio in the spring recruiting. I said hello to him. I said, 'Well, I guess I’ll be seeing you at the end of August.' And then he got out and got in his Escalade and drove off. That’s serious. And then I went over and watched (Alabama freshman) Burton Scott at Vigor High School at the track over there, and Burton Scott was running around. He went and got in his Escalade out at track practice and drove off. So I’m familiar with those two guys."

Maybe this will help fire the team up for the game this weekend.

NCAA Stats: Crimson Tide Tangles with No. 9 Tigers
Crimson Tide News
Monday, 25 August 2008

Alabama leads the all-time series with Clemson, 11-3. This is the first meeting between the two schools since the Crimson Tide posted a 56-0 win over the Tigers on Sept. 20, 1975, at Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa. The two teams first met on Nov. 29, 1900, at North Birmingham Park with Tigers prevailing, 35-0. The Tigers won the first three meetings, all shutouts, in 1900, 1904 and 1905. Alabama has won the last 11 meetings, including its first series win on Oct. 16, 1909 at the Birmingham Fairgrounds with UA winning, 3-0. In fact, 10 of the 14 meetings have resulted in shutouts. UA and Clemson met again in 1913, four times in the 1930s and four times in the 1960s. UA's 74-7 win on Nov. 14, 1931 at Montgomery's Cramton Bowl is one of the largest margins of victory in school history.
