  • Alabama's McClain avoids serious injury in accident (AP)

    Alabama coach Nick Saban said linebacker Rolando McClain was involved in a motorcycle accident but sustained only minor injuries. The sophomore was released from a hospital in his hometown of Decatur after the accident Thursday. Saban said Friday that McClain sustained only some cuts and abrasions and will be monitored by Alabama's medical staff.

    Alabama coach Nick Saban is a guy who likes to talk about the "process" of building a championship team, not immediate results or day-to-day evaluation.

    That's probably a good thing, considering the way the Crimson Tide finished with a 7-6 record and closed out the regular season with four straight losses, including an explicable home loss to Louisiana-Monroe, a second consecutive loss to Mississippi State and a sixth straight loss to rival Auburn.

    Alabama junior offensive tackle Andre Smith was honored over the weekend in Phoenix as a member of the 52nd Annual Playboy Preseason All-America Football Team. Smith is the first Crimson Tide player to be recognized as part of the prestigious group since Roman Harper in 2005.

    Alabama senior safety Rashad Johnson was named to the 2008 Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List as announced by the Football Writers Association of America on Monday. The Nagurski Trophy is awarded to the best defensive player in college football and is sponsored by the Charlotte Touchdown Club.

    Alabama senior center Antoine Caldwell has been named to the 2008 Rimington Trophy 2008 Spring Watch List, an honor given annually to the top center in college football. The nine-year old trophy is presented by the Boomer Esiason Foundation and is named for Dave Rimington, a consensus first team All-America center at Nebraska in 1981 and 1982.
